MY “SECRET” GARDEN
I’ve been hitting the trails over at the Governor’s mansion recently. If you’ve never been, you should...they’re pretty cool!
There’s a surprising amount of topography...so you’ll get one heck of a workout...but there’s also a tremendous amount of diversity. There’s prairie, woodlands, rocky hill tops, deep bottom ground, rocky ledges, small creeks, a pond, and all kinds of plant and animal life. And there are trails winding through all of it.
I did a little plant “geeking” while there a week or so ago and snapped a bunch of pictures. I thought I’d share.
Mayapples everywhere!
Poison Ivy...don’t touch!
This one’s Virginia Creeper...it’s okay.
Lots of Redbuds!
Trail marker
All kinds of cool trunks!
The newly emerging foliage of hickory is stunning!
More new growth hickory leaves…
…And more stunning hickory!
New growth on oaks everywhere
Trail behind the Governor’s mansion
Mayapple flower
It’s been so pretty! Lots of new growth and lots of spring blooms. I didn’t capture many blooms this day, but they’ve been there, too.
There’s a little something different every time I go. If you’ve never been, you should check it out...and check it out frequently.
It’s an impressive place!
Cameron Rees, General Manager
Changes are happening fast, everywhere.
Recent storms brought some much-needed rain, and things are responding nicely. It is greener and more lush by the day. We’re also enjoying some cooler weather. It looks and feels a lot more like this time of spring ought to...I’ll take it!
It’s a fun time of the year. I hope you take some time to get out and enjoy it!

WHAT’S NEW? BULK COMPOST!
A while back, we added a new compost product to our offerings. It’s Certified OMRI (Organic Materials Review Institute) organic compost, and it’s perfect for making gardens better. It comes in 1.5 cu ft bags, AND just recently, we started stocking it in bulk, too!
So, if you’re needing a lot of compost and you have a way to haul, we can get you fixed up!
MOTHER’S DAY!
If you’re hunting for something pretty for mom for her special day, we’ve got you covered!
We’ve got all kinds of plants to choose from: hanging baskets, mixed containers, flower shrubs, roses, hydrangeas, trees, and a whole lot more!
And if you need help figuring out what will work out best in her yard or home...we can help with that too!
time for garden rose crop
We grow this crop once a year...and it’s ready!
Hybrid teas, grandifloras, floribundas, and climbers, we’ve got them all, and they are starting to bud up. A few are even starting to show color!
But when this crop is sold, they’ll be gone until next year.
IMPORTANT NOTE: We stock hardy shrub roses all year, but the traditional garden roses are a “one and done” springtime crop...so don’t wait too long!
